3G mobile phones are the third generation developments in wireless technology. Typical free 3G mobile phones include capabilities and features such as multimedia functions, multiple usability modes (cell phone, e-mail, paging, web browsing), high speeds and broad bandwidth, and enhanced roaming capability.

While 3G cell phones usually have a camera and/or video feature, typically the pixel quality hasn’t always been the greatest. These smart phones may provide pictures that are a bit blurry, grainy, or muted. However, times have changed, and the Sony Ericsson C905a Camera Phone has altered the game. With 8.1 megapixels, this cell phone has greater image quality than many traditional cameras. With an expandable storage center (you can use M2 memory cards up to 12GB in size), the C905a is the perfect mobile device for any photographer. This cell phone is more like a camera with an attached phone than the other way around. Our Sony Ericsson C905a camera phone review will detail many of the device features.

The best free cell phones often miss out on having exclusive, niche features. The C905a is one of the first free cell phones that offers a specific niche a specialty device; with this phone, you can go ahead and skip purchasing a point-and-click camera.

The C905a does have a modern look, but we have to warn you that it is a bit on the chunky side. It really does look like a camera instead of a free cell phone. With a hefty weight, you will definitely notice that your pants feel as though you’ve added a sandbag when you stick the phone in your pocket.

We were impressed by the C905a’s display. Bright and colorful, all images, icons, and text appeared crisp. The screen was easy to read in direct sunlight.

The Sony Ericcson C905a has a nice interface, with a standard menu. A few AT&T specific features were thrown in, such as AT&T Music, AT&T Navigation, and Media.Net. The Entertainment menu offers a number of applications. We liked the app swapper section, which allows you to access your apps using a single button. You can access your apps using a shortcut menu and a method is provided for managing your apps. We were impressed that the C905a can easily handle running multiple Java apps at once.

This free cell phone includes AT&T’s mobile email application, which allows you to choose from 11 email service providers, including Yahoo, AIM, Hotmail, and Comcast. Unfortunately, you can’t add your own POP3/IMAP accounts. You can send fairly large files via email attachment – a nice add-on feature. The C905a’s IM client supports several programs: AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. It seemed simple to have multiple conversations at one time.

The AT&T Music section is a nice feature. The music player allows you to sort through your music by artist, album, songs, and playlists. The media player displays album art, and lists the song title, album, and artist. You can use the included headset to listen, a set of Bluetooth headphones, or through the phone’s speaker. The C905a does not come with a 2.5 mm or 3.5 mm headset jack; you’ll need to find an adapter. ?

Sony Ericsson gave the C905a a powerful 8 megapixel camera and tons of software. Adjustments can be made to the camera settings easily without opening up screen after screen; these adjustments include the flash, brightness, macro mode, and the timer. The options menu gave us a huge selection of controls. Five different shooting modes are available, along with landscape or portrait orientation; several different pixel quality settings; four focusing modes; and the ability to do tasks such as changing the metering, setting the white balance, effects, and picture quality. We thought that the camera focused quickly and saved the high resolution shots equally fast. The C905a comes with a cool gallery app that allows you to edit photos and display them.

We liked the included AT&T Navigator GPS, which offers turn-by-turn voice and onscreen driving directions. The app gives real time information about traffic – we were able to reroute our commute after a dump truck lost its load and caused a bottleneck. Over 10 million business listings are searchable, and we located and navigated all kinds of places: ATM machines, restaurants, gas stations, Wi-Fi Hotspots, and others.

Free sprint phones may take a dive after the release of the Sony Ericsson C905a, an AT&T product. We love the AT&T free camera phones, and found that this camera phone makes a great present for any budding photographer.
